Synopsis

In 2023, the FDI published a Supplement to the International Dental Journal entitled, The role of mouthwash as part of routine oral care. That Supplement is an excellent summary of mouthwashes in the international context, but what are some specific learnings we can take from that publication for Australian practice?

Oral Medicine Specialist, Dr Amanda Phoon Nguyen joins ADA Interact for a local perspective on what role – if any – mouthwashes have in routine oral care for our patients. The range of available mouthwashes is extensive, and we’ll be exploring:

Learning outcomes:

  • The risks, benefits and uses of commonly available products.
  • alternatives to proprietary products
  • emerging technologies
  • common active ingredients in mouthwashes in Australia, their mode of action
  • positive and negative oral and systemic impacts of common mouthwashes
