Dr Craig Brown - Moderator

Dr Craig Brown is a general dental practitioner and has been running his own two-dentist practice in Manly, Sydney, since 1988. He has held an appointment as Adjunct Lecturer in the School of Dentistry and Health Sciences at Charles Sturt University and was admitted as a Fellow of both the Academy of Dentistry International and the Pierre Fauchard Academy in 2015 and the International College of Dentists in 2021.  Craig worked for ADA NSW Advisory Services on a part-time basis for over 10 years, firstly as a Peer Advisor and subsequently in a consultancy capacity.

Dr Kate Amos - Chair, ADA Infection Control Committee

Kate is a general dentist in a private group practice on the Mid-North Coast of NSW. Kate has a Masters in Health Professional Education and is on the Board of ADA NSW and the Australian Dental Council. Kate has undertaken additional training with the College of Infection Prevention and Control and Governance Institute of Australia and has been part of the ADA Infection Control Committee since 2018.

Emeritus Professor Laurence Walsh AO - Past Chair, ADA Infection Control Committee

Emeritus Professor Laurie Walsh AO is a specialist in special needs dentistry who has been on the academic staff of the University of Queensland for over 40 years.  Laurie has been involved in research and infection control and microbiology for over 30 years, and has served on the ADA’s Infection Control Committee for over 25 years.  He was the editor of the second to fourth editions of the ADA Infection Control Guidelines and supporting resources.  Laurie serves on several committees of Standard Australia involved in PPE and instrument reprocessing.

Dr Heidi Munchenberg - Chief Dental Officer Adelaide Dental Hospital, SA Dental

Heidi is a general dentist who has worked in a variety of settings both public and private. She is currently with SA Dental as a Clinical Director with responsibility for the SA Dental Infection Control and Staff Health Unit, Adelaide Dental Hospital Central Sterilising Department and the Orthodontic Unit. Heidi was also the COVID-19 lead for SA Dental during the COVID-19 pandemic. Heidi completed a Graduate Certificate in Infection Prevention and Control in 2020 and a Master’s in Public Health in 2023 and is an Australasian College of Infection Prevention & Control Credentialled Infection Control Professional, Advanced level.

Synopsis

This second webinar focusses on common areas for implementing change in IPC, including:

  • Proper segregation and flow of reprocessing activities
  • The link between labelling, BCI and load recall
  • The selection and use of tests for air removal and steam penetration
  • Assessing air change rates in the reprocessing area
  • Reprocessing water quality for cleaning, final rinsing and steam generation
